The ELF grant provided for a silver rolling mill and silver to produce fine jewelry. In addition to creating gorgeous jewelry, this project involved a cultural exchange between JBHS students and students at Red Cloud High School on the Lakota Indian Reservation. For the 2008 grant, the students held an auction of their jewelry in January 2008. They raised $3,800 for Red Cloud High School. The 40 students who created 31 pieces of sterling silver jewelry were very proud of their accomplishments. The auction was an extreme success with standing room only!
On October 2, 2008, ELF presented Tom McMorran, Head of School at JBHS, with a check for $9,075. The funds were used to purchase SMARTboards, to provide for two JBHS faculty members to attend the Institute on Redesigning American High Schools for Improved Instruction offered by the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and to provide silver materials and a drill for the Art department. Congratulations!
