Why support iPads?
- When surveyed about priorities for instructional innovation in the current academic year, both teachers and administrators from all three schools expressed a strong desire to experiment with iPads in the classroom.
- Administrators agree that these devices are quickly becoming a standard not only in peer schools, but also in business and society; they believe our students will benefit greatly from controlled exposure to iPads in an educational context.
- Limited pilots have already occurred at the high school using iPad specific simulations to teach biology and astronomy; the feedback and preliminary assessment have been overwhelmingly positive.
- ELF has limited its commitment to funding one mobile cart at the elementary school and another at the middle school with the understanding that all students, K-8, will have access to iPads for specific and well-defined instructional activities.
- ELF's goal is to enable experimentation and assessment of this new technology in the Easton Public Schools with the objective of better understanding its utility for instruction and fit with the broader technological culture/environment of the district.
