DNA Extraction Lab

Applicants: Nancy Culliton

Target Population: 7th Grade Students

Content Area of Project: Life Science - Genetics

Amount of Grant:

2011 $1000.00

Students will gain a clear understanding of what DNA is and where it can be found. Each student will obtain their own cheek cells and extract DNA from these cells. They will separate their DNA strands and store in glass vials, part of their DNA necklace. This grant builds on last year’s DNA Necklace Lab. The grant allows Nancy to purchase a special DNA bath as well as DNA extraction models and necklaces. This is a third year that ELF has funded this grant.
